Isaiah 62 Prayer Letter - June 2020

Dear prayer partners,

The month of June begins as we finish celebrating the Feast of Weeks, or Pentecost (meaning 50) as it is known by Christians. For many of us, it has been a time of lockdown in our homes due to the COVID-19 Crisis. We have been counting the days and praying for the lockdown to be lifted, a forced waiting period for many around the world. It is no coincidence that this time also has fallen during the time of counting the seven weeks after Pessach to the Feast of Shavuot (Deuteronomy 16:9-10). The Jewish people count and remember their freedom from slavery in Egypt and look forward to the celebration of the first harvest.

It is during this time that Jesus died on the cross at Passover, giving us freedom from being slaves to sin and victory over death, and then instructed his disciples not to depart from Jerusalem but to wait there for the promise of the Father, the baptism of the Holy Spirit (Acts:1).

“When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” (Acts 2: 1-4)

The outpouring of the Holy Spirit was not a complete surprise to the followers of Jesus, but a fulfilment of Joel’s prophecy many years beforehand. So when the crowds questioned what was happening, Peter reminded them that Joel prophesied about this day.

“And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions. And also on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days.” (Joel 2:28-29)

I would like to encourage you to once again invite the Holy Spirit more fully into your life. He is a free gift and will empower you to preach the Gospel and pray the will of God for you.

“But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit.” (Jude 1:20)

“[P]raying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints.” (Ephesians 6:18)

Please join us this month as we all seek the leading of the Holy Spirit to pray according to the will of God.

And thank you for standing with the ICEJ during the Corona crisis.

Shalom from Jerusalem,
