Isaiah 62 Prayer Letter - September 2021

Dear prayer partners,

Thank you for joining us here in Jerusalem to pray together as we enter the month of September and prepare to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles.

As we consider the unfolding events in our world: the continuing confusion of COVID-19 and changing policies and regulations; the chaos we see in Afghanistan and the anguish we feel as we pray for the many first-generation believers who either are being hunted down or will be as the Taliban takes over the country – we may not know how to pray.

Just last week, as we gathered to pray over the situation in Afghanistan, I was crying out like David in Psalm 94:3 – “How long will the wicked triumph?” As I cried before the Lord, I heard the still small voice say: “Until their sin is complete.” In Genesis 15:16, God told Abraham that his descendants would go into Egypt until the sin of the Canaanite inhabitants of the Promised Land was complete.

Our heart should break for those becoming martyrs for their faith in Jesus. Yet we must not allow the enemy to bring confusion that this is somehow a failure of our Lord. We must remember we serve and follow the Crucified One, who has been raised Victor over death.

In Romans 8:18-27, Paul says that the suffering of this present time is not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. In 1 Corinthians 4:7-18, Paul further develops this theme by saying that our current affliction is light (compared to eternity) and temporary but is working in us a more exceeding and eternal weight of Glory. In Philippians 3:10, he adds: “That I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His suffering...” In Hebrews 11:35, we also are told that some in the faith were tortured, not accepting deliverance, that they might obtain a better resurrection.

We must also remember that our loving heavenly Father is also the perfectly Righteous Judge. And in Isaiah 45:7, the Lord is clear: “I make peace and create calamity: I the Lord do all these things.”

As we pray during all the current calamity, we must always remember and celebrate our Lord’s sovereignty.

We are preparing to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles. How can we be joyful and celebrate in a world of such confusion, chaos, and suffering?

We celebrate because He tells us to in Zechariah 14:16-19. We do so while remembering that He is not surprised nor confused by the suffering in the world. We also remember that Tabernacles is to be a joyful season.

On September 20, we will again celebrate a global Feast of Tabernacles. While it is not permitted for you to join us in Jerusalem this year, we encourage you to join us online by taking in the daily broadcasts and the 100 seminar teachings on a variety of topics, like the Feast theme “The Days of Elijah”, Current Events in the Middle East, Local Believers in Israel (Arab and Jewish), Christians and Israel, Replacement theology, Next Generation, and so much more.

Come and join us online to celebrate the Feast and to worship the King of Kings, our heavenly Redeemer, even as we in submission acknowledge that He is the Righteous Judge of the Heavens and Earth.

Here in Jerusalem, we pray that the peace/shalom of our Prince of Peace will be in your heart in this festival season.

Shalom from Jerusalem,

Barry R. Denison
