UN Panel Criticizes Palestinian Authority
The UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) in Geneva took the unprecedented step this week of criticizing the Palestinians and urging them ”to stop hate speech and incitement to violence that fuels antisemitism” and to “remove any derogatory comments and images from school curricula and textbooks that perpetuate prejudices and hatred.” The panel also criticized the Palestinian Authority for failing to adhere to UN treaties designed to combat racism or to act on complaints of discrimination made by residents of areas under its jurisdiction.

In related news, the European Union issued a statement this week condemning Israel for demolishing the home and private business south of Jerusalem that was owned by the Palestinian Cassia family because an Israeli court had found that they were built on land owned by the KKL-JNF. The EU statement declared that such moves“together with settlement construction for Israelis in the area, exacerbate threats to the viability of the two-state solution and further undermine prospects for a lasting peace…the EU expects the Israeli authorities to fully meet their obligations as an occupying power under International Humanitarian Law. The continuation of this [settlement] policy undermines the viability of the two-state solution and the prospect for a lasting peace and seriously jeopardizes the possibility of Jerusalem serving as the future capital of both States.”

Here is a video giving some analysis of relations between Israel and the EU
