Syria’s Assad talks peace, prepares for aggression

According to Syria’s president Bashar Assad, there is ongoing mediation between Syria and Israel regarding the Golan Heights and Israel’s security objectives. He added “to talk about mediation can be premature, and what is going on is a search for common ground”. Assad told Turkey’s TRT television that “what is happening now is a search for common ground to launch the talks. For us the primary basis is the return of the whole land. For Israelis they are talking about security arrangements.” Further, Assad would like to give Turkey a larger role in the peace talks, the only country Assad considers capable to deliver a final peace agreement. Israeli officials charge that while Assad talks about a peace deal with the Turks and Europeans, he continues and deepens his strategic relationship with Iran and its terrorist proxies Hamas and Hizbullah.
