SECOND KASSAM HITS EDGE OF ASHKELON

Israel launched further airstrikes inside the northern Gaza Strip early on Monday in a bid to disrupt ongoing Palestinian missile launches into Israel after a Kassam rocket fired Sunday evening from the ruins of the evacuated Israeli settlement of Dugit struck the Ashkelon industrial zone- the second hit on the populous Israeli city in a week.

According to Ma'ariv, Israeli security officials remain concerned about the risk of a rocket strike on a key infrastructure target such as Ashkelon's nearby power station, oil pipeline, or water desalination plant.

Israeli military sources have also said that the dominant Hamas terror group has relayed scores of extended-range Kassam missiles to the Islamic Jihad and Popular Resistance Committees for them to fire toward Israel, allowing it to maintain its nominal ceasefire for the duration of the upcoming Palestinian legislative elections.

"Formally, Hamas has pledged to honor a ceasefire arranged by the Palestinian Authority, so rather than fire the Kassams themselves, they give them to their terrorist allies," a military source told Middle East Newsline.
