Netanyahu Meets with Trump in Washington
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was on his way home Tuesday morning following a shortened trip to the US which included a meeting with US President Donald Trump at the White House. During their meeting, Trump signed an official document codifying America’s recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, despite fierce denunciations of the move from Russia, Turkey and several Arab governments, as well as Iran. During their joint press conference, Trump also declared his unwavering support for Israel’s defensive measures against rocket attacks from the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip.

However, close US ally Saudi Arabia, which has been quietly much friendlier to Israel in recent years, issued a scathing denunciation of the move on Tuesday. “It will have significant negative effects on the peace process in the Middle East and the security and stability of the region," a statement on Saudi Arabia's state news agency SPA said. Bahrain, Qatar and Kuwait all issued milder statements, while Iranian leaders issued fiery statements describing it a sinister plot by America and Israel to violate international law and terrorize and dominate the Middle East.
