Israel\'s incoming tourism numbers at record levels in 2010

Israel's Central Bureau of Statistics reported on Tuesday that nearly 2.5 million tourists have visited the country since the start of 2010, 27% more than visited in the first three quarters of 2009 and 9% more than in the same period in 2008. The numbers mean Israel is on track to have a record year for visitors and might even achieve the Tourism Ministry’s goal of 3 million tourists for the year. The Tourism Ministry will spend NIS 70 million marketing the Holy Land by the end of the year, particularly targeting group trips and encouraging airlines to increase their seating capacity on flights to Israel. The main target of the advertising campaigns are traditional markets such as the US, Russia, Germany, France, England and Scandinavia, but Brazil, South Korea, Poland and former Soviet republics are also seen as potential sources of tourism.
