Hamas claims it foiled attempt to spring Gilad Schalit

Hamas claimed on Thursday that it has uncovered an Israeli plot to locate kidnapped IDF soldier Gilad Schalit and extricate him by using a well-placed mole inside the Islamist terror militia who was planting bugs in the organization's radios and cell phones. Israel reportedly spirited the agent out once he was discovered, according to a report in Egypt's al-Ahram newspaper today. Hamas sources also said that the collaborator maintained relationships with top Hamas members in order to learn information about where Schalit is being held. The Hamas sources said that once they realized that an Israeli agent had supplied them with their wireless phones, they quickly stopped using them. Schalit's family has been occupying a protest tent outside the Prime Minister's residence in Jerusalem, saying they will stay there until they see their son again. Many in Israel have questioned why the government and military have not taken more proactive steps to locate and free Schalit from his abductors after four years in captivity.
