Government announces plan to deal with stone throwing in Silwan

In relation to the increasing problem with children throwing stones at drivers in the Silwan neighborhood of eastern Jerusalem, authorities have declared that the parents of  “rock throwing” children will be held responsible. Shmuel Ben-Ruby, the Jerusalem Police District spokesman told Jerusalem Post that “we will not arrest parents, because that would be problematic, but we do want to make them responsible for their kids”. More than 450 rock throwing incidents have been reported in the last three and a half months, 76 people have been arrested, 46 adults and 30 minors. The need for finding a solution to the increasing problem became urgent as David Be’eri, head of the Elad NGO, accidently hit two children throwing rocks at his car last week.
