Ex-Saudi ambassador slams Washington for support of Israel

A couple of days after the Obama administration officially requested congressional review of a massive arms deal with Saudi Arabia estimated at $60 billion, the former Saudi ambassador to Washington and ex-director of Saudi intelligence, Prince Turki al-Faisal, criticized the US for its close relations with Israel. “It has failed to curb the brutal Israeli policy of collective punishment, arbitrary arrests and killings,” Prince Turki said during a conference of the National Council for US-Arab Relations. One of his points of criticism was aimed at US efforts to make Israel prolong the settlement freeze: “The United States failed to stick to its assurances, and to add insult to injury, offered the Netanyahu government more money, arms and protection from the UN sanctions.” He also claimed that the US dealt with Palestinian territory as if the territory were part of “American sovereign land.”
