Clinton accused Russian immigrants to Israel of blocking peace process

Speaking recently at a panel discussion for the Clinton Global Initiative, former US President Bill Clinton told the audience that Russian immigrants to Israel are an obstacle to peace with the Palestinians. "An increasing number of the young people in the IDF are the children of Russians and settlers, the hardest-core people against a division of the land. This presents a staggering problem. Sixteen percent of Israelis speak Russian." Clinton's controversial comments were met by waves of Israeli criticism. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed regret over the comments, while leading Russian-Jewish politician Avigdor Lieberman accused Clinton of "interfering in the internal affairs of another country."
